Arrived back
in Detroit and got to visit with some of Tanya's childhood friends and
wow what a meal they cooked for us. Manya has two beautiful children and
I want to say thanks to her and Marc for having us for a few days.
Enjoyed our visit to Traverse City and lunch at the Mongolian BBQ. I was
amazed at the number of fishing boats that were out in the lake early
when we left Muskegon. Arriving in Hammond Marina which is also a Casino
we were placed on the party dock. The boaters on this dock had hired a
DJ and had a 100' long buffet of food. WOW! The Illinois River is
prettier then expected but not very recreational boater friendly. The
marinas further downstream are not like ours on the east coast, these
are old barges where you attempt to pull up to and secure your vessel at
your own risk. The Mississippi River on the north end is beautiful with
rock cliffs and beautiful homes in the top of the mountains. There is a
swift current but it is manageable to handle. A trip to the hospital in
St. Charles proved very helpful to making the pain go away and the staff
was great. On to Hoppie's Marina but first we passed by the St.Louis
Arch and are able to snap a few shots before the current carries us
south. Arriving Hoppies we were a little surprised to see how small this
marina was. It was a few barges tied to the shore with fuel pumps and
electric. Hoppie himself came out to help us tie up in the south
current. Thankfully this man know what he is doing and it helps a lot.
The next day we caught a cab to the airport and headed for home... |
